So, this was a challenging piece to say the least. The colors on Northern Lights was particularly difficult... trying to make a horse (or anything) with unrealistic colors not have that odd glowy feel was hard, but it basically boiled down to lighting. Shadowing and highlighting became my best friend. Also, I wanted to give the picture some depth by putting Bane a little farther back, adding some space between them and making the picture appear deeper. I think that the biggest difficulty a lot of artists have is lighting and depth - and they're too things that I've really been trying hard to master lately.

In addition, I thought I should mention that - because I love to butcher good stock photos baha (and also because I just couldn't find that "perfect" picture - Northern Lights is made up of three different horses (the head is one, the neck/chest/barrel/front legs is another, and the hindquarters and back legs are yet another). So tada!
